Oil Change & Lube

Full synthetic, blends, conventional — your choice or the manufacturer's spec. Every oil change on Main Street includes a fresh filter and a free multi-point inspection.

Oil change and lube service at Whalen Automotive in Wellsville, KS

A Real Oil Change — Not a 10-Minute Upsell

We use quality major-brand oils at the viscosity your manufacturer specifies, drain the old oil clean, replace the filter, and top off your fluids. Every visit includes a free multi-point inspection — tires, belts, hoses, fluids — so you catch problems in the shop instead of on the shoulder of US-59. It's the simplest, cheapest maintenance you can do, and it's the fastest way to make a Kansas engine last.

  • Same-day service — most oil changes are done in about 30 minutes.
  • Free multi-point inspection — every single visit, no exceptions.
  • The right oil for your engine — we match your manufacturer's spec.

What's Included

Every oil change at Whalen Automotive covers the fundamentals — and a few things the quick-lube places skip.

01

Conventional & Blend

Older trucks and high-mileage vehicles. Quality oil, fair price.

02

Full Synthetic

Required by most cars made after 2012. Better protection, longer interval — and it holds up in Kansas summer heat.

03

Diesel & Hybrid

Specialty oils for diesel trucks and hybrid powertrains, including stop-start engines.

04

Filter Replacement

Oil, air, cabin air, and fuel filters per manufacturer schedule.

05

Tire Rotation

Free with any oil change on request — every 5,000 miles is ideal on our gravel and highway mix.

06

Multi-Point Inspection

Tires, belts, hoses, fluids, lights, brakes — all checked and reported in plain English.

Which Oil Is Right For Your Car?

There's no single "best" oil — there's the right oil for your engine, your mileage, and how you drive around Franklin County. Here's how we think about it when you drop off:

  • Full synthetic — the default for most cars built after 2012. It resists breakdown in the July heat and flows better on a cold January start, so it protects the engine at both extremes we get out here.
  • Synthetic blend — a middle ground for higher-mileage vehicles that want better protection without a full-synthetic budget.
  • Conventional — perfectly fine for older engines and work trucks with shorter intervals. Quality oil at a fair price.
  • High-mileage formulas — for engines past 75,000 miles, with seal conditioners that help slow small leaks.
  • Diesel & hybrid specialty oils — diesel trucks and stop-start hybrids need specific oils and filters, and we stock the right ones.

Not sure what's in your engine now? Bring it in — we'll read the spec, check the sticker in the door jamb if there is one, and set you up correctly.

When To Come In

Most cars need an oil change every 5,000–10,000 miles depending on oil type and driving conditions. A lot of Wellsville driving is short trips into town and gravel county roads — both of which are harder on oil than steady highway miles — so don't stretch the interval too far. Bring it in if:

  • It's been 5,000 miles or 6 months since your last oil change
  • The service or oil-life indicator on your dash is at 15% or below
  • You're heading out on I-35 for a long trip and want a fresh service first
  • Your engine is making more noise than usual at startup
  • You see oil drips on the driveway under your car
  • You just bought a used car and want to start with a clean baseline

Average turnaround: about 30 minutes, with a comfortable waiting area on Main Street. Most oil changes are same-day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most modern cars on full synthetic oil go 7,500–10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. Conventional oil intervals are shorter — 3,000–5,000 miles. Around Wellsville, a lot of driving is short hops into town and dusty gravel roads, which is harder on oil than the highway, so we'll help you land on the right interval for how you actually drive. We follow your manufacturer's published spec and reset your service indicator after each visit.
Usually not. Oil changes are typically same-day if you call before noon Mon–Fri. For a specific time or a busy afternoon, call (785) 214-8596 to reserve a slot. Most oil changes are done in about 30 minutes.
We stock quality major-brand oils in viscosities from 0W-20 through 20W-50 and match whatever your manufacturer specifies. We also service diesels, hybrids, and stop-start engines that require specialty oils. If you have a brand or grade preference, just tell us when you drop off.
Every oil change includes a free look at the things that leave you stranded: tires (tread and pressure), brakes (pad thickness), fluids (coolant, transmission, brake, power steering, washer), belts, hoses, lights, wipers, battery, and the underbody for leaks. You get a plain-English report — we flag what needs attention and never push work your car doesn't need.
Yes. We service diesel trucks and hybrids, including stop-start engines that require specialty oils and specific filters. We use the correct oil spec and reset the maintenance reminder so your service light clears the way it should.
